Airway tissue engineering to change the process of drug development
The BRONCH project is to develop the world’s first multi-cellular, tubular construct from human airway cells that functions to all intents and purposes, exactly like the airways in our own lungs.
We will develop novel methods to grow human airway cells in ways which encourage them to perform just like they do in our lungs.
This includes; differentiating the epithelium and triggering smooth muscle cells to contract, all inside a biocompatible tubular scaffold containing fibroblasts.
