Airway tissue engineering to change the process of drug development

• The BRONCH project is to develop the world’s first multi-cellular, tubular construct from human airway cells that functions to all intents and purposes, exactly like the airways in our own lungs.
• We will develop novel methods to grow human airway cells in ways which encourage them to perform just like they do in our lungs.
• This includes; differentiating the epithelium and triggering smooth muscle cells to contract, all inside a biocompatible tubular scaffold containing fibroblasts.
